eSIM for Bulgaria

Covered by our Europe plan, from $10.00.

What the network is actually like

Cities and the Black Sea coast are fine. Mountain regions, particularly the Rhodopes, have real gaps. Bulgaria uses Cyrillic script, so offline maps with Latin transliteration are worth setting up in advance.

Networks: A1, Yettel, Vivacom

How much data you'll need

5GB for a week in the cities. The mountains want more, and offline maps.

Where people go

  • Sofia

A mountain at the end of the metro line. Vitosha is skiable.

  • Plovdiv

One of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in Europe.

  • Varna

Black Sea coast, and the base for the northern beaches.

What's on

Timings are month-level, because most of these move year to year.

  • Rose Festival

    Early June

    Kazanlak

The Valley of the Roses harvest, which supplies much of the worldโ€™s rose oil.

  • Kukeri

    January

    Pernik and villages

Masked ritual dancers in enormous bells. Old, and not a revival.
