Turkey travel guide: mobile data, networks and what's on
31 Turkey plans from $0.60.
Talisim editorial team · Updated
Quick answer
Talisim sells 31 Turkey eSIM plans from $0.60, 1–180 days, 100MB–50GB, up to 3G, 4G, 5G, on Vodafone, Avea/Türk Telekom. Top-ups: yes, on most plans. Data only: no phone number, calls or texts. WhatsApp, FaceTime, Signal and iMessage work over data. Hotspot and tethering work, as far as your phone allows, and use the same data.
What the network is actually like
5G went live in April 2026 in all 81 provincial centres, with 4.5G (LTE-Advanced) outside them. Marmaray trains keep signal in the tunnel under the Bosphorus, and City Lines ferries carry free İBB WiFi. About a fifth of the Lycian Way has no signal. Airport wifi wants an SMS code or a passport scan at a kiosk.
This eSIM: up to 3G, 4G, 5G, onVodafone, Avea/Türk Telekom. Each plan on the Turkey page says which of these it uses.
How much data you'll need
10GB covers two weeks. WhatsApp is the most used app in Turkey, and BiTaksi or Uber book yellow taxis in Istanbul, Izmir and Ankara.
Recommended: 10GB → closest plan 10GB · 30 days, $6.42.
