What the network is actually like

Good in Bangkok, Chiang Mai and on the main islands, with 5G across central Bangkok and signal through the MRT tunnels. Expect gaps on the ferries between islands and on hill treks in the north. Most hotels and cafes have wifi that works.

How much data you'll need

Where people go

  • Bangkok

Traffic stops dead from four to seven. Take the Skytrain or a river boat.

  • Chiang Mai

Old city inside a moat, mountains forty minutes out. Smoky in March and April.

  • Phuket

A big island with the beaches far apart. Patong is the loud one.

  • Krabi

Limestone cliffs and longtail boats. Railay has no road, so it's boat only.

  • Koh Phangan

Full Moon Party once a month. Quiet the rest of the time.

What's on

Timings are month-level, because most of these move year to year.

Candle floats on every river. Chiang Mai lets off sky lanterns the same weekend.
