Indonesia travel guide: mobile data, networks and what's on
33 Indonesia plans from $0.60.
Talisim editorial team · Updated
Quick answer
Talisim sells 33 Indonesia eSIM plans from $0.60, 7–30 days, 100MB–50GB, up to 3G, 4G, 5G, on Telkomsel, XL, Indosat. Top-ups: yes, on most plans. Data only: no phone number, calls or texts. WhatsApp, FaceTime, Signal and iMessage work over data. Hotspot and tethering work, as far as your phone allows, and use the same data.
What the network is actually like
Fine in south Bali, Ubud and the cities on Java. Away from the main islands it drops off quickly. The Gilis have signal but the boat over may not, and large parts of Komodo, Flores, Sumatra and Kalimantan have little or none. Cafe wifi on Bali is good enough to work from.
This eSIM: up to 3G, 4G, 5G, onTelkomsel, XL, Indosat. Each plan on the Indonesia page says which of these it uses.
How much data you'll need
About 10GB for two weeks on Bali, less if you work from cafes. Download what you need before a Komodo boat trip.
Recommended: 10GB → closest plan 10GB · 30 days, $9.40.
Where people go
Ubud

The port for Komodo boat trips. Signal is patchy once you're out among the islands.

Bali's Day of Silence. Nobody goes out for 24 hours, the airport closes, and some years mobile data is switched off too.
Galungan and Kuningan
Every 210 days
